In early July 2026, authorities in Ciudad Juárez carried out raids at a rehabilitation centre, uncovering an illegal burial and arresting four individuals.

A few weeks later, municipal officials reported on the performance of a newly‑bidded street‑sweeping contract, noting extensive cleaning activity and a budget exceeding 10.9 billion pesos. Simultaneously, city police conducted several operations: a vehicle chase that ended in the arrest of five occupants with a firearm, drug busts seizing crystal methamphetamine, and a coordinated raid that captured four suspects linked to a kidnapping and homicide case, along with cocaine wraps. The city also responded to a fire involving roughly 20,000 discarded tires, which released toxic smoke and prompted an investigation of the responsible processing firm.

Mayor Héctor Ortiz later defended the legality of the sweeping contract, citing data that eight mechanical sweepers had covered nearly 298,000 km, removed over 20,000 tonnes of debris and serviced 142 streets between April 2022 and August 2024. He said the service is paid per kilometre and includes operators, fuel and maintenance, and argued the tender complied with law despite criticism from former mayors. Ortiz noted the 2022 municipal budget was about 6 billion pesos, while the current budget exceeds 10.9 billion pesos, allowing consideration of purchasing sweepers in the future.
