Olympic silver medalist and former amateur world champion Clemente Russo Russo, also known as ‘Tatanka’, has announced his return to boxing at age 44. After retiring in 2021, Russo intends to make his professional debut in an eight-round match in the -93 kg category. The bout is scheduled for November 21 at the Allianz Cloud in Milan as part of the ‘Taf - The Art of Fighting 14’ event. Russo will face Mohamed Elmaghraby, an undefeated professional boxer with a 15-0 record. The match will be broadcast exclusively on Mediaset networks. Elmaghraby, a 30-year-old Italian and international champion, views the match as a test of his career progress. Russo, who currently coaches the Italian elite national boxing team, stated his return is driven by a passion for the sport and a desire to maintain physical fitness rather than for financial gain, noting that his passion “never truly faded” and that he feels in peak physical condition. Newer details indicate the comeback idea originated as a joke following a proposal from Edoardo Germani of The Art of Fighting. However, after a month of training, Russo decided to commit to the challenge to test his “rhythm, endurance, and reflexes.”
