Russo, who currently coaches the Italian elite national boxing team, stated his return is driven by a passion for the sport and a desire to maintain physical fitness rather than for financial gain, noting that his passion “never truly faded” and that he feels in peak physical condition.

Newer details indicate the comeback idea originated as a joke following a proposal from Edoardo Germani of The Art of Fighting. However, after a month of training, Russo decided to commit to the challenge to test his “rhythm, endurance, and reflexes.”
