Clergy sexual abuse investigations in France
Overview
Judicial investigations have been opened in France against two members of the clergy following allegations of sexual violence against minors.
In Lille, prosecutors are investigating former priest Jacques Delfosse regarding allegations of rape and sexual violence involving seven victims during summer camps held between 1990 and 2002. While 26 people have filed complaints, 19 cases were dismissed due to the statute of limitations. An investigating judge is set to determine Delfosse’s formal indictment.
In Marseille, an investigation was launched into Bishop Jean-Michel di Falco following a third complaint of rape and sexual assault. The complainant, Hubert Desplanques, alleges the abuse occurred between 1970 and 1973 while he was an altar boy. Defense counsel has denied the claims, describing them as “false and imaginary.”
