Climate and sustainability initiatives in São Tomé and ');

São Tomé and Príncipe has undertaken several initiatives focused on climate resilience and sustainable development. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) launched the RESIslands initiative, a 30-month project funded by the Green Climate Fund. This program aims to enhance climate change preparedness, risk assessment, and investment planning to protect natural resources and essential services. Concurrently, local youth have been developing policy recommendations regarding water sanitation, food security, and clean energy to inform the country’s position for the COP31 conference.

In the private sector, the Portuguese Association of Environmental Technology Companies (APEMETA) has partnered with the Network of Incubators and Accelerators of São Tomé and Príncipe (REINA) to host workshops for local entrepreneurs. This cooperation focuses on identifying business opportunities in environmental sectors such as waste management, water treatment, and the blue economy, aiming to facilitate partnerships between Portuguese enterprises and São Toméan businesses.
