Overview
The Gambia has initiated formal efforts to address climate vulnerability through both government projects and civil society advocacy.
In early September, the government launched the $12 million Climate-Resilient Banjul: Enhancing Urban Resilience in the Greater Banjul Area (CLIMB) Project. These activists demanded climate justice and debt relief, arguing that the nation faces severe consequences like erratic rainfall despite contributing minimal global greenhouse gas emissions. Protesters linked the climate crisis to economic instability and have engaged with the National Assembly regarding agricultural and food security policies.
