Clinical trial results in oncology and cardiovascular health

Overview

Recent medical research and clinical trials have produced varied outcomes across oncology and cardiovascular studies.

In oncology, research into breast cancer showed that combining cemiplimab and fianlimab with chemotherapy increased pathological complete response rates for high-risk HER2-negative and triple-negative patients. However, the regimen will not proceed in its current form due to “excessive immunological toxicity.” In bladder cancer, a Phase III study indicated that combining pembrolizumab and enfortumab vedotina improved overall survival and complete pathological response compared to standard chemotherapy. Conversely, AstraZeneca halted its Phase III eVOLVE-Lung02 trial for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer after determining that the combination of volrustomig and chemotherapy was unlikely to significantly improve survival rates over existing treatments.

In cardiovascular research, the ZEUS clinical trial involving over 6,300 participants found that the anti-inflammatory drug ziltivekimab failed to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke, despite successfully reducing C-reactive protein levels.
