Cloud computing infrastructure expansion in Brazil

Cloud computing providers are expanding infrastructure and services within Brazil. Algar Telecom is growing its Cloud Plus solution in the South and Northeast regions, modernizing data centers in Uberlândia and São Paulo to reduce latency and offer billing in local currency. The company is prioritizing a “sovereign cloud” with 100% Brazilian-based operations to improve data security.

Alibaba Cloud has launched its first South American cloud region by establishing two data centers in Brazil. This expansion aims to provide localized computing, storage, and networking services while complying with local data governance and cybersecurity regulations. The move is part of a broader global commitment by Alibaba Group to invest $53 billion in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

In Brazil, Alibaba Cloud intends to introduce enterprise-grade “agentic AI services” designed to automate complex tasks such as database management and threat response. To support its market entry, the company has formed partnerships with local firms Insi and 4Linux. While initial infrastructure is active, reports indicate Alibaba is still negotiating for additional power capacity, with 30MW to 70MW of AI-related demand currently under discussion with providers. This deployment positions Alibaba as a significant competitor to US-based hyperscalers like AWS, Microsoft, and Google in the region.
