Câmara de Lobos municipal governance and investment

Political and regional developments in Câmara de Lobos have centered on fiscal management, agricultural support, and large-scale public investment.

In the Municipal Assembly, the Socialist Party proposed allocating 50% of municipal tourist tax revenue to a fund for agricultural preservation, aimed at maintaining traditional landscapes and irrigation channels. Mayor Celso Bettencourt opposed the measure, describing it as an attempt to create “political numbers” lacking financial sustainability. Additionally, debates arose regarding a proposal to reduce the municipal income tax (IRS) rate from 2.5% to 2%.

Concurrently, regional authorities announced significant infrastructure and social investments. The Regional Government has directed approximately 43 million euros toward housing construction since 2024. Other major funding includes 50 million euros for water and sanitation, 20 million euros for road accessibility, and 12.5 million euros for sports facilities. The agricultural sector has also received 17 million euros in approved projects through PRODERAM. Furthermore, local health programs have reportedly benefited over 3,100 residents.
