Overview
The Coordination Nationale de Lutte contre la Fraude (CNLF) has conducted several operations in Burkina Faso to intercept illicit and fraudulent goods.
In late August 2026, the CNLF reported seizing approximately 144 million FCFA worth of contraband near Ouagadougou. These seizures included unauthorized veterinary products, expired medication, counterfeit motor oil, and smuggled cigarettes. The agency stated these actions were intended to protect the national economy and public and animal health.
Following these efforts, operations conducted between late August and mid-September 2026 resulted in the seizure of over 86 million CFA francs in fraudulent goods. This period saw the discovery of dangerous materials, including 2,046 sticks of explosives and 32 rolls of detonating cord hidden in fertilizer bags. Authorities also intercepted smuggled beverages and non-compliant tobacco and shisha products across various regions.
