Coahuila election legal dispute

In mid‑July 2026 Mexico’s Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) announced it would review the results of Coahuila’s local deputy elections after the governing Morena‑Labor coalition filed a constitutional challenge. The parties alleged vote‑buying, intimidation, misuse of public resources and irregular voting patterns, though they admitted the evidence did not conclusively prove fraud. The review was to assess the legality of the state electoral court’s decision that had validated the June 7 vote.

By early August, the Regional Monterrey Chamber of the TEPJF dismissed the coalition’s appeal, ruling that the petitioners lacked standing to contest the district‑level outcomes. The decision left the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s (PRI) absolute majority in the Coahuila Congress intact. Other lawsuits related to the 2026 elections remain pending, but the primary effort to overturn the results was rejected.
