Coalsnaughton evacuation response

In late July 2026 the UK Government announced it would fully reimburse the Scottish Government and Clackmannanshire Council for the emergency costs incurred after historic coal‑mining‑induced ground movement forced the evacuation of 97 homes in Coalsnaughton, Scotland. The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) confirmed the cause, pledged long‑term support for displaced families, and outlined options such as market‑value purchases for severely damaged properties.

A few days later the MRA took direct control of the response, coordinating with the Scottish government, the local council and the Local Resilience Partnership to ensure safety and financial assistance. In addition to covering remediation costs, the MRA announced a four‑year, £9.4 million professional services framework to procure construction, environmental and technical expertise across the UK, aiming to strengthen future remediation efforts in former mining areas.
