Cocoa smuggling interception in Ghana

Overview

A joint security task force in Ghana intercepted 118 bags of cocoa beans, totaling approximately 11,800 kilograms, near the Bunkpurugu border. The cocoa was discovered concealed beneath a load of plantains in a Hyundai Rhino truck during an operation targeting suspicious movement toward Togo.

The multi-agency operation involved the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Defence Intelligence, the National Security/Signal Bureau, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority. Four individuals were arrested, including the driver and a person claiming ownership of the consignment. The suspects remain in custody pending court proceedings as investigations continue.
