Colombia and Uruguay community and research funding

Overview

In late October 2026, both Colombia and Uruguay implemented various funding programs targeting youth, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

In Colombia, the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC) distributed equipment to 49 youth-led initiatives in Boyacá through the ‘Jóvenes en Ciencia para la Paz’ project, covering fields such as astronomy and agriculture. Additionally, the National Learning Service (SENA) launched the ‘Volver a Crecer’ initiative via its Fondo Emprender, allocating over 34.14 billion pesos to support businesses in several departments affected by an August earthquake and recent forest fires.

In Uruguay, the ACJ Youth Center in Villa Sonia was selected for funding through the INAU ‘Fondos Trama’ program to renovate an abandoned public space. Simultaneously, the National Secretariat of Science and Valorization of Knowledge (SENCI) and the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) launched the 2026 Carlos Vaz Ferreira Fund, providing up to 440,000 Uruguayan pesos to early-career researchers focusing on sustainability, health, and education.
