Colombian cadastral management and valuation issues

The Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi (IGAC) has been managing various cadastral and property valuation issues across different Colombian municipalities.

In La Cruz, Nariño, the IGAC issued a resolution to adjust planned increases for rural cadastral updates. This decision followed concerns from rural property owners regarding the economic impact of initial projections. The adjustment process involved technical meetings with municipal authorities, citizen oversight committees, and environmental entities to ensure new percentages reflect local geoeconomic conditions.

In other regions, the agency is addressing management failures and investigations. In Yopal, the IGAC resumed cadastral services after the previous operator, Catasig, departed, leaving behind technical delays and abandoned services. This follows a Contraloría General de la República investigation into fiscal findings of 6,332 million pesos related to defective updates. Meanwhile, in Chía, reports have alleged systemic failures in the cadastral and property tax systems, with claims that disproportionate tax increases affected many citizens while certain landowners and political figures benefited from errors.
