Colombian judicial actions against organized crime

Overview

Colombian authorities have taken legal action against several high-ranking figures involved in organized crime and armed groups.

In the Caquetá department, the Attorney General’s Office charged Geovany Andrés Rojas, alias ‘Araña’, leader of the ‘Comandos de Frontera’ group. Rojas is accused of responsibility for 16 homicides between 2020 and 2024, targeting social leaders, peace agreement signatories, and individuals perceived as threats to the group’s control over drug trafficking routes and cocaine paste trade.

In Tolima, Eduardo Chala Rojas, known as ‘Alacrán’, was sentenced to 54 months in prison for the illegal manufacture, trafficking, and possession of firearms following extortion attempts against local merchants. Additionally, authorities identified Juan Carlos Vacca Castillo, alias ‘Dímax’, a high-ranking criminal involved in homicide and drug trafficking. Castillo, who faces a 41-year sentence, was reportedly captured in Panama after allegedly attempting to manipulate his identity by claiming membership in indigenous communities to evade legal consequences.
