Following the first anniversary of the death of Italian television host Pippo Baudo, colleagues and broadcasters have organized tributes to honor his legacy. Broadcaster Carlo Conti paid tribute to Baudo, describing him as a mentor and a ‘lighthouse’ for his generation, noting how Baudo revolutionized the industry by evolving the role of the presenter into a creative host and author. Entertainer Lorella Cuccarini also shared personal recollections of Baudo’s support following a serious car accident in 1985. In response to the anniversary, the broadcaster Rai announced special programming across its platforms. On August 16, Rai 1 scheduled ‘Stasera… Pippo Baudo’ to feature archival footage, including highlights from his 13 editions of the Sanremo Music Festival, alongside a Tg1 special titled ‘Mister Tv Pippo Baudo Story’ exploring his Sicilian origins. Other channels, including Rai 3, Rai Storia, Rai News24, and Rai Cultura, planned dedicated coverage and historical programs to celebrate his career and influence on Italian television history. Rai CEO Giampaolo Rossi characterized Baudo as a ‘symbol of the public service’ who significantly shaped the nation’s collective imagination. The commemorative lineup includes a special episode of ‘Blob’ on Rai 3 titled ‘Superpippo,’ as well as historical clips from programs such as ‘Canzonissima’ and ‘Ieri e oggi.’ Additionally, Baudo’s daughter, Tiziana, has shared personal reflections regarding his life and his profound connection to Sicily. Baudo, known as ‘SuperPippo,’ passed away in Rome on August 16, 2025, at the age of 89. His career spanned over six decades, during which he was considered one of the last of the ‘four musketeers’ of Italian television, alongside Mike Bongiorno, Corrado, and Enzo Tortora. Originally from Militello in Val di Catania, Sicily, he rose to national prominence in 1966 following the success of the pilot for ‘Settevoci.’
