Community and cultural events in Alytus

Overview

The city of Alytus is hosting a series of community events focused on culture, education, and urban history.

In mid-September, the Alytus Jurgio Kunčino Public Library organized the ‘From ARTist to Me(n)talist’ Cultural Experience Festival for youth. This program included 12 sessions covering topics such as media literacy and contemporary circus. Concurrently, the city participated in European Mobility Week with guided hikes along the Nemunas river and through the Vidzgiris botanical reserve to promote sustainable movement.

Additionally, the city held its inaugural architecture weekend, ‘Pastatai kalba. Alytus’ (Buildings Speak. Alytus). The event highlighted local landmarks, such as the Alytus St. Benedict Gymnasium, which was designed to serve as a stylistic departure from Soviet-era architecture. The weekend aimed to encourage residents to rediscover the city through its historical and urban structures.
