Congolese football administrative dispute

The Congolese football landscape is experiencing significant administrative instability and power struggles between the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA) and the Ligue Nationale de Football (Linafoot).

In early August 2026, Linafoot suspended several administrative procedures for the 2026–2027 season, including club participation fees and player qualification processes. This followed an intervention by FECOFA, which ordered a freeze on all decisions regarding league promotions and relegations, specifically instructing the reinstatement of FC MK in the standings pending a review of the process.

By mid-August 2026, FECOFA implemented a broader restructuring of authority. Under new circulars, Linafoot was stripped of its power to train and designate match officials for the first and second divisions, as well as its disciplinary competence regarding match incidents. This restructuring has sparked controversy within the sporting community. Amidst these changes, former FECOFA president Constant Omari Selemani alleged that political maneuvering and a “campaign of sabotage” involving FIFA leadership contributed to his resignation from the federation.
