The film ‘Cronos’, directed by Fernando González Molina, recreates the August 2017 terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils. The narrative focuses on the ‘Cronos’ police operation, a 124-hour deployment aimed at locating and apprehending those responsible for the attacks on Las Ramblas, rather than focusing on the massacre itself. Following the film’s announcement, controversy emerged involving members of the Mossos d'Esquadra police force. The backlash stems from comments made by lead actor Enric Auquer, who criticized the BRIMO intervention unit regarding its use of force and suggested a protective stance toward far-right groups. Toni Castejón, spokesperson for the FEPOL union, described these remarks as an “insult to the officers who experienced the horror of the 2017 attacks,” leading to calls for a boycott of the film. Auquer, who portrays an inspector based on Jordi Rodón, has since addressed his role and his stance on the police force. While expressing mixed feelings and noting criticisms regarding the handling of protests and accountability, he acknowledged that within the corps, there are agents “committed to ethical and democratic policing who strive to perform their duties effectively.”
