Cooperativa Obrera activities in Argentina

In late July 2026, the Argentine workers' cooperative Cooperativa Obrera began distributing a total of $9.789 million to its members. The payout, approved at the ordinary assembly, comprised a Return to Consumption component of more than $6.1 million for over 1.5 million members and an Interest on Capital component of over $3.6 million for more than 2.9 million members. By law, 5 % of the surplus goes to a legal reserve, 5 % to labor assistance, 5 % to cooperative education, and the remaining 85 % is paid directly to members, who can redeem the amount as a discount or keep it in their individual capital accounts.

A few days later, on 1 August 2026, Cooperativa Obrera announced the opening of two new Supercoop supermarkets in Buenos Aires—one in Balvanera and another in Saavedra—bringing its city network to four locations. The cooperative had previously opened a larger branch in San Martín de los Andes, adding 22 jobs and expanding its local presence. Management emphasized a measured expansion strategy, focusing on a limited number of stores rather than rapid growth.
