Corruption investigations in Jammu and Kashmir

Overview

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified investigations into various forms of official misconduct and financial irregularities across the region.

Initial legal actions included a charge sheet filed against a former junior assistant in Rajouri for the alleged embezzlement of funds and foodgrains intended for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme during 2014-15. Investigators claimed records were manipulated to misappropriate rice and cooking costs, causing a loss of approximately ₹12.65 lakh.

Subsequent operations expanded to include bribery and land fraud. In Srinagar, two field supervisors from the J&K Women’s Development Corporation were arrested during a trap operation for allegedly demanding illegal gratification to facilitate a loan under the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) Scheme. Additionally, in Jammu, a former Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) was investigated for allegedly misusing his position to grant unauthorized land transfer permissions in violation of revenue laws and High Court directions.
