Cosenza province administrative and real estate scrutiny

An investigation by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of Catanzaro has identified potential links between organized crime and the management of the Province of Cosenza and the Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore. The probe focuses on money laundering and irregularities within the provincial real estate and construction sectors.

Specific findings include the Province’s purchase of the former Lucanto hotel in Lorica for 710,000 euros, despite a reported real value of only 200,000 euros, and the awarding of a 100-million-euro energy efficiency project to Consorzio Italia Servizi. The investigation also covers the acquisition of the Cetraro Carabinieri barracks from Ottagono srl for 1.126 million euros, a company reportedly heavily in debt and subject to judicial foreclosure.

Separately, data from the Berry Brick Observatory indicates that Cosenza has become the fifth highest province in Italy for real estate auctions, recording 1,733 auctions in the first nine months of 2026. This volume exceeds that of major metropolitan areas like Milan and Naples, with Cosenza recording approximately 2.6 auctions per 1,000 inhabitants, significantly higher than the national average of 1.2.
