Costa Rican film industry international award submissions

Overview

The Costa Rican Center for Film and Audiovisual Arts (Centro de Cine) has launched initiatives to promote national cinema through international award submissions and programming.

On August 11, the agency announced a call for entries to select Costa Rica’s representative for the Best Ibero-American Film category at the 41st Goya Awards. This process includes producers of feature films released between November 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026. Alongside this, the Centro de Cine scheduled various film series, including documentary screenings and retrospectives of French and Brazilian cinema.

Following this, the agency opened submissions for the 99th Academy Awards. Producers have until August 19, 2026, to submit Costa Rican feature films for consideration in the International Feature Film category. To qualify, films must meet specific length, language, and theatrical release requirements. Minister of Culture and Youth Jorge Rodríguez Vives stated that these selections aim to project the “talent and identity of the national audiovisual industry to a global audience.”
