In late July 2026, a federal judge in Chihuahua issued a provisional amparo that temporarily suspended the arrest warrant for José Luis A. C., the owner of Crematorio Plenitud in Ciudad Juárez. This suspension halted pending detention and a potential Interpol Red Notice regarding the alleged mishandling of more than 1,600 remains. By early August 2026, the suspension was revoked after the owner failed to comply with required conditions, such as appearing before the criminal court. The revocation re-activated the arrest warrant. Investigators previously uncovered 386 embalmed bodies awaiting incineration at the facility, and prosecutors are coordinating with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and Interpol to locate the owner, who is suspected of being in the United States. Following the loss of legal protection, the activist collective ~~'Justicia~~ ‘Justicia para Nuestros ~~Deudos'~~ Deudos’ has called on the State Attorney General's Office to intensify the search for José Luis A. C. The group suggested pursuing an Interpol Red Notice and offering a reward for information, reporting sightings of the individual in El Paso, Texas. The collective also criticized the prosecutor's office for a perceived lack of firmness and challenged the 10,000 peso guarantee previously set ~~by a federal judge~~ as a condition for the initial ~~suspension,~~ suspension.
