Crime and robbery incidents in Peru
Overview
Police in Peru have conducted several operations involving robberies and assaults across different regions.
In Juliaca, an 18-year-old suspect was detained for the physical assault and attempted robbery of a school student. In Chincha, authorities arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a university student and stealing her purse, cash, and mobile phone.
In the Huánuco region, police arrested two women in Ambo following an aggravated robbery in the Huaracalla hamlet, where a victim was physically assaulted and lost a mobile phone and 4,000 soles.
Recent operations have expanded to target organized crime and cybercrime. In Comas, the First Corporate Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Cybercrime raided 13 properties used by a fake bank advisor call center network, resulting in the detention of eleven suspects and the seizure of approximately S/40,000 and US$10,000 in cash, alongside electronic devices.
In Pocollay, an investigation into merchant robberies led to the seizure of ammunition and four vehicles with adulterated license plates. In Chimbote, police apprehended a suspected member of the ‘Las Sombras de Nuevo Chimbote’ gang and are working to seize a residence used as a hideout for explosives and stolen vehicles. Additionally, an armed robbery was reported at a minimarket in Trujillo’s Villa Marina sector, where suspects used threats to steal cash and personal belongings.
