Overview

In Chile, authorities in the Los Lagos region have targeted organized criminal activities. In Osorno, five Venezuelan nationals were placed in preventive detention following a kidnapping probe. Prosecutors linked the suspects to ‘Los Mapaches’, a faction of the Tren de Aragua criminal group. During a raid on a property used as a drug distribution hub, investigators seized cocaine, cannabis, MDMA, and firearms. This incident represents the first confirmed presence of the Los Mapaches faction in the region.

In a separate legal proceeding in Puerto Varas, five individuals face charges related to the illegal extraction of timber from Army-administered property. The theft of native species across more than 160 hectares resulted in estimated fiscal damages exceeding one billion pesos. In Honduras, judicial proceedings regarding organized crime continue. Two brothers, Dennis José Puerto Ramos and Junior Joel Puerto Ramos—known as ‘Chemo’ and ‘Checha’—have been placed in preventive detention for the triple murder of three youths in El Cimarrón. The victims were found burned, and investigations suggest the crime may have been linked to a failed drug and alcohol transaction.

Further developments in Honduras include the arrest of four members of the ‘Los Argueta’ criminal structure in Omoa, with one suspect potentially linked to an attack that killed five police officers. Additionally, an individual known as ‘Brayan’ was arrested in Comayagua for illegal firearm possession and is suspected of being a hitman for the MS-13 gang.

Additionally, in Chile, four former Carabineros were convicted for the illegal mistreatment of a detainee in Alto Hospicio.
