Criminal activity in French departments

Overview

Reports indicate various criminal activities targeting infrastructure and businesses across several French departments.

In the Rhône, Ain, Isère, and Gironde regions, organized burglaries have targeted at least eleven fire stations since August 2026. Criminals have been stealing high-value hydraulic rescue tools, such as cutters and spreaders, which are reportedly being repurposed to force open heavy or armored doors during other robberies. In response, authorities have implemented security reinforcements, including increased patrols and the installation of additional detection devices.

Separately, in Grenoble, a series of suspicious fires has targeted various businesses over the past year. Recent incidents include the destruction of a restaurant by fire, following a pattern of attacks on nightclubs, butcheries, bars, boutiques, and hair salons. In one instance, a flaming vehicle was used to attack a storefront.
