Criminal gang conflict in Sarajevo

Overview

A violent escalation in the Sarajevo region has been linked to a nearly two-decade-long rivalry between criminal factions led by Darko Elez and Đorđe Ždrale.

On August 3, Davor Dabić, an associate of Elez, was shot in the head during an attempted murder in Lukavica. Following the attack, Dabić underwent neurosurgery and was reported to be in stable condition. This incident followed another shooting on August 2, where Kosta Pandurević was wounded in East Sarajevo.

Authorities have identified Đorđe Ždrale as a suspect in the August 2 attack, which involved gunfire directed at a vehicle carrying Pandurević and a two-year-old child. As of September, Ždrale remains at large. Police are also searching for Dalibor Bartula, who is suspected of participating in the crime under Ždrale’s instructions. Investigations into the attempted murders and related organized crime activities are ongoing, with regional police departments coordinating their efforts.
