Criminal indictments in Croatia and Serbia

Overview

Legal proceedings have been initiated regarding separate criminal activities in the Balkan region.

In Rijeka, Croatia, the Municipal State Prosecutor's Office indicted a 39-year-old contractor for the theft of 30,130 euros from a residence in Veprinac. The suspect, who was hired for renovation work, allegedly used a duplicate key to enter the home and accessed a safe using the factory default combination ‘0000’. While the suspect admitted to entering the property, he claimed to have taken only approximately 15,000 euros.

In Belgrade, Serbia, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against a former member of the Rakovica Municipal Council and a company manager for allegedly defrauding the Rakovica Municipality and the City of Belgrade. The suspects are accused of causing damages exceeding 10.4 million dinars between 2018 and 2023 through the issuance of false invoices for goods and services that were not provided. Charges include abuse of official position, falsification of documents, and money laundering.
