Criminal investigations and arrests in Vietnam

Vietnamese authorities have conducted several high-profile investigations and arrests involving violent crime, cross-border incidents, and financial fraud.

Initial reports highlighted a major investigation into a cross-border crime spree. A group led by Nguyen The Du targeted a business in Cambodia, resulting in a murder and the theft of approximately $100,000 USD, 30 taels of gold, and 600 million VND before the suspects fled to Vietnam. Concurrently, domestic legal actions included a death sentence for a murder and robbery in Hung Yen province and various arrests for knife-point robbery and document forgery.

Subsequent developments focused on the apprehension of fugitives and white-collar crime. Police in Hanoi arrested Tran Dinh Trung, an Interpol Red Notice fugitive who had been hiding on fishing vessels. In Thanh Hoa, a deputy bank director, Nguyen Thi Van, was detained for allegedly using forged contracts and seals to misappropriate billions of dong. Additionally, Bùi Văn Nhượng, a murder suspect wanted since 2019 for a crime committed in Cambodia, was captured in the mountainous Lao Cai region and handed over to authorities.
