Criminal investigations and femicide in Peru

Overview

Authorities in Peru are investigating various criminal incidents across multiple regions. In Puno, police detained a 27-year-old man, Franz Junior R. H., as the primary suspect in the suspected femicide of 21-year-old Luz Anghela P. T. Her family reported she had suffered physical, psychological, and economic violence prior to her death.

In the Huaura province, two women were discovered dead in the cargo area of a truck traveling from Lima to Hualmay, while in the Santiago district of Ica, three men were found unconscious after a suspected robbery involving drugging.

Regarding the situation in Puno, the region faces a potential rise in annual femicide cases. Yuri Mamani Hancco, coordinator for the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations’ Warmi Ñan program, noted that three cases had been officially recorded through August. The potential increase follows the death of Luz Anghela Pérez Toma and another incident in Juliaca currently under investigation. Mamani Hancco observed that in many instances, victims and their social circles remained silent about abuse until fatal events occurred.
