Criminal prosecutions of Dutch nationals

Overview

Legal proceedings have concluded or are commencing for various criminal activities involving Dutch nationals in the Netherlands and Austria.

In the Netherlands, a Gelderland court sentenced five men for attempted cargo thefts. The investigation followed a November 2025 incident in Klarenbeek where police stopped suspects from tampering with a truck. Two individuals were found responsible for attempting to steal goods from eighteen additional trucks by cutting tarpaulins; they received fifteen-month prison sentences. Other defendants received sentences of two months, five months, and an accomplice conviction.

In Austria, three Dutch men are scheduled to appear in a Wels court to face charges regarding a series of ATM explosions across Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and Vienna. One defendant is accused of involvement in seven incidents, including a series of explosions in Vienna and Brunn am Gebirge during mid-2025. The charges also involve a high-profile explosion in Gmunden, where prosecutors allege suspects used a knife to steal a car for use as a getaway vehicle, and an explosion in Wels city center that resulted in the theft of approximately 175,000 euros.
