Croatia natural gas storage management
Overview
The Croatian government mandated that users of the Okoli underground gas storage facility near Kutina fill at least 85 percent of their leased capacity by October 1. As of mid-August, storage levels had reached 77 percent, an increase from 51 percent in July.
While gas procurement costs rose by 11 percent, the government implemented subsidies to mitigate the impact on end-users. In the Energa distribution area, including Rijeka, the subsidy was increased from 0.0005 to 0.0046 euros per kilowatt-hour, which is expected to keep household gas prices at current levels. The storage facility has an effective availability of approximately 350 million cubic meters, estimated to cover three to four months of domestic needs.
