In late July 2026 the Croatian government advanced a mix of sport‑facility upgrades and municipal green‑space improvements. Municipal upgrades continued with modest playground revamps in Matulji and a European‑funded "green yard" project in Zagreb that turned a city courtyard into a landscaped area with trees, vegetable beds, a pergola, seating, table‑tennis and a picnic zone, part of a €64,268 effort to increase urban greenery and curb heat‑wave effects.

A day later Croatia’s green‑space agenda broadened to additional cities. Rijeka began planning a new square on Žabica, planting 37 trees and adding tree‑lined streets to lower summer temperatures and improve storm‑water management. Zagreb’s "green courtyards" programme progressed with €64,269 of EU funding, converting private yards into public oases despite mixed public reaction. In Zadar’s western district of Kožino, an urban plan set aside 12.3 ha for a school, sports facilities, social‑service buildings and parks, explicitly excluding new residential or commercial development. These steps underscore a coordinated push to modernise both sporting venues and public green environments across Croatian towns and cities.
