Croatia social welfare and reintegration initiatives

Croatia has implemented several initiatives aimed at enhancing social welfare and support services for vulnerable populations.

In August 2026, the government approved a national Project for Social Reintegration to assist approximately 12,000 individuals annually recovering from drug, alcohol, gambling, and video-gaming addictions. This program introduces a “recovery capital” concept to mobilize community resources and provides access to education, housing, and employment assistance to help individuals re-enter society.

Concurrently, efforts to support individuals with disabilities have progressed through both infrastructure development and civic activism. In Međimurje County, the MURID Early Childhood Intervention Center opened an expanded facility featuring specialized diagnostic and therapy rooms. In Požega-Slavonia County, a civic petition signed by nearly 10,000 people has called for the establishment of a rehabilitation center for children and young people with disabilities, prompting requests for ministerial intervention to ensure local authorities address the citizens' legal rights.
