Crvena zvezda disciplinary actions and staff changes

Overview

Crvena zvezda coach Albert Rijera suspended star player Aleksandar Katai for two matches following a disciplinary incident. The suspension was triggered by Katai’s poor reaction to being substituted during a match against Radnički Niš. The club maintained that “no individual is above the team” and that hierarchy must be respected.

Alongside the player suspension, Rijera reshuffled the coaching staff by removing physical trainers Nikola Perišić and Marko Vasiljević to pursue a different approach to player conditioning.

Following the initial announcement, Rijera clarified that Katai had not been expelled from the team. The coach emphasized that captaincy is an “obligation to serve as an example to others rather than a privilege” and noted that Katai was training well with an expected return to the squad shortly. As the club prepares for its UEFA Conference League debut against Lugano in Switzerland, Riera reiterated that discipline applies to everyone, including himself.
