Cryptocurrency platforms expanding options trading
Overview
Cryptocurrency platforms are expanding their service offerings to include options trading.
On October 19, 2026, the Ethereum zk-rollup exchange Lighter launched binary options contracts for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) on its Core platform. These contracts function as Up/Down markets where traders predict price movements, paying out 1 USDC for winning shares. The products are fully funded in USDC and do not utilize leverage.
Following this, Blockchain.com introduced options trading functionality within its Trading Account on October 20, 2026. This feature allows retail and institutional users to trade short-term market views by selecting expiry dates and target prices. Supported assets include Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Hyperliquid, Avalanche, XRP, and TRON, with trades being funded upfront via USDC.
