Côte d'Ivoire student academic assignments
Overview
In August 2026, Côte d’Ivoire completed major student placement processes for both secondary and higher education levels.
Initially, the Direction de l'Orientation et des Bourses (DOB) announced the assignment of 218,943 students from the third grade into the second grade of general and technical education, as well as the first year of the Brevet de Technicien (BT). Of these students, 47.22% were assigned to private institutions. Approximately 3.71% of students were placed in schools outside of their initial preferences due to capacity constraints.
Following this, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research concluded the orientation process for the 2026 baccalaureate session. Out of 90,548 applications, 88,848 students were assigned to higher education institutions, representing a 98.1% orientation rate.
Data indicated a shift in higher education placement: 30.1% of students were placed in public universities, an increase from 27% in 2025, while 69.86% were assigned to private universities and grande écoles, a decrease from 72.3% the previous year. Officials attributed the increased public sector placement to government investments in expanding public capacity through new campuses and research units. A free, online change-of-orientation procedure was scheduled for eligible students from August 28 to September 2, 2026.
