Cultural and literary activities have been highlighted across Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Montenegro, commemorations were held at Cyrillic Square to mark the 150th anniversary of poet Milan Rakić’s birth, focusing on his legacy as both a poet and a diplomat. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the PEN Center hosted a promotion for Karlo Ilić’s debut book, ‘Taksim bop’, which explores the fusion of Middle Eastern musical improvisation and jazz bebop through poetry and essays. Subsequently, the 56th Ratković Poetry Evenings opened in Bijelo Polje, Montenegro. President Jakov Milatović inaugurated the event, noting its role in connecting different cultures and generations. The European Alliance of Montenegro observed that this iteration marks a significant cultural reclamation, being the first in over thirty years to occur without the controversy surrounding the 1993 ‘Risto Ratković’ literary award previously granted to Radovan Karadžić. During the Ratković Evenings, the ‘Risto Ratković’ award for 2026 was shared by two authors: Dejan Ilić for ‘Pokopani rt’ and Obrad Nenezić for ‘Happy end… za tužni završetak’. Jury president Olga Vojičić Komatina noted the high quality of the 46 manuscripts submitted from the region. Additionally, the Tivat Literary Summer featured the presentation of Marko Braković’s novel ‘Tvrda kora’, in which the author discussed using artificial intelligence for proofreading and design. The program also included Croatian author Jurica Pavičić, who presented his novel ‘Žigice’ at the Tivat Museum and Gallery.
