Cultural and theatrical events in Hanoi

Hanoi recently hosted several cultural events highlighting Vietnamese traditions. The Cham Islam community from An Giang province held a cultural exchange program titled ‘Bản tình ca làng Chăm’ at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, showcasing traditional architecture, hand-woven brocade, and unique attire such as the Maspok scarf.

Simultaneously, the 2026 Expanded Hanoi Stage Festival concluded after a 10-day run. Organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, the festival featured 15 professional units performing across six genres, including drama, Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong, circus, and folk singing. The event saw high engagement with 10,000 free tickets distributed and all 15 shows reaching full capacity.

Major awards were presented to various performers and productions. Gold medals for best plays were awarded to ‘Đạo học’ by the Hanoi Cheo Theater and ‘Người con gái Hà Nội’ by the Army Drama Theater. Silver Medals were presented to ‘Khoang troi con gai’, ‘Loi cua tre’, and ‘Cuon truyen bi dot’.

Individual honors included 23 Gold Medals and 37 Silver Medals for performers. Notable gold medal winners included actress Nhat Kim Anh for her role as Tham in ‘Cuon truyen bi dot’, and NSƯT Ốc Thanh Vân for her performance in the same production. Other notable gold medal winners included actress Viet Hoa from the Vietnam Drama Theater for her role in ‘Ao anh’.

Following the festival, several troupes are preparing for commercial tours. The production ‘Cuốn truyện bị đốt’ has scheduled a performance in Long Điền, while ‘Lời của tre’ is preparing for a run at a central circus stage. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also exploring potential international cultural exchange opportunities.
