Cultural programming and funding in Portugal
Overview
Cultural development initiatives in Portugal have focused on strengthening programming and funding in low-density territories.
Évora 2027, in partnership with the Intermunicipal Community of Alentejo Central, announced a session titled ‘Programar na Baixa Densidade: Desafios e Potencialidades’ (Programming in Low Density: Challenges and Potentialities). The session seeks to explore participatory and transformative cultural programming models to reach diverse audiences and foster a sense of belonging in these regions.
Following this, the EEA Grants 2021-2028 Culture Programme announced a €10.5 million allocation to be launched in Évora on October 2. Managed by Património Cultural I. P. and the Direção-Geral das Artes, the programme includes an Arts axis specifically designed to strengthen cultural offerings in low-density population areas while promoting diversity and inclusion. The programme also features a Cultural Heritage axis focused on sustainable revitalization and climate change adaptation.
