Cultural tourism development in Dien Bien

Overview

Dien Bien province is advancing initiatives to promote community-based, cultural, and ecological tourism by leveraging its ethnic identity and historical heritage. In Pu Nhi commune, the Tu Lu - Tia Lo community tourism model was launched to utilize the area’s cool climate and Hmong cultural traditions, supported by infrastructure investments from the National Target Program for New Rural Development.

Building on these preservation and livelihood efforts, the province hosted the 4th National Hmong Cultural Festival from October 9 to 11, 2026. The event gathered participants from 11 provinces to showcase traditional crafts, sports, and culinary arts. Officials emphasized that preserving Hmong cultural values serves to strengthen national unity and should be integrated with tourism development and national security.
