Cundinamarca environmental sustainability initiatives

Overview

The Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR) has implemented various sustainability and climate resilience initiatives in Colombia. The ReModa program has focused on a circular economy by diverting approximately 38 tons of textile waste from landfills through 203 initiatives and 54 companies, which has also contributed to local employment and increased productive capacity.

Parallel to waste management, the CAR is addressing water scarcity through its ‘Ruta para la Preparación Climática’ (Climate Preparation Route) strategy. To mitigate the effects of phenomena like El Niño, the agency has introduced a technical guide for the recirculation of greywater. This initiative encourages households to repurpose wastewater from sinks, showers, and washing machines for tasks such as irrigation and cleaning, aiming to reduce pressure on regional reservoirs and aqueducts.
