Curitiba police misconduct investigation

Overview

The Military Police in central Curitiba are under investigation following the release of a video showing two officers assaulting a man. The footage, which lasts over seven minutes, depicts officers delivering punches and kicks, including an instance where an agent stepped on the victim’s head while he was handcuffed and immobilized.

While police reports claim the individual offered “active resistance” during a response to a suspected drug trafficking and noise disturbance call, the Military Police have launched an administrative procedure to analyze the incident. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is monitoring the case via a Military Police Inquiry to ensure transparency and legality.

In response to the footage, the OAB Paraná has denounced the incident as a potential human rights violation.
