Cyber extortion arrest in Hyderabad

Overview

Hyderabad cybercrime police arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly extorting Rs. 38 lakh from a 70-year-old retired employee. The suspect reportedly used a fake Facebook profile of a young woman to build rapport with the victim through chat.

After establishing confidence, the accused allegedly engaged in sexual conversations and then blackmailed the man by threatening to file criminal cases regarding the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor. Police seized two mobile phones and have booked the individual under various sections of the IT Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
