Cyberattack trends in Colombia
Overview
Colombia has emerged as the second most targeted country for cyberattacks in Latin America, trailing only Brazil. Organizations in the country face an average of 4,090 weekly attacks, a trend linked to expanded digital transformation and increased attack surfaces for cloud platforms and connected devices.
Recent data indicates a specific and critical surge in threats against the Colombian healthcare sector. Approximately 60% of reported attacks are directed at hospitals and clinics, posing risks to patient safety by disrupting access to medical histories and medication records. In the first half of 2026, ransomware attacks against health providers increased by 14% compared to the previous semester, averaging roughly 2.3 incidents per day.
Furthermore, the Superintendencia Nacional de Salud reported over 23 million attack attempts in a single month in March. This included unauthorized access to the Sperargo documentary system, where attackers successfully downloaded sensitive personal information equivalent to 1.6% of the repository.
