Czech firefighter memorial competitions

Overview

In September 2026, two firefighter competitions were held in the Czech Republic to honor first responders associated with the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The 11th annual Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA) competition took place in Kladno. Organized by the Fire Rescue Service of the Central Bohemian Region, the event tested physical endurance through seven disciplines, such as climbing seven floors and carrying heavy cylinders while wearing full protective gear. The Příbram team won the team category.

Following this, the 21st Manhattan Memorial was held in Liberec. This competition featured a more demanding format, combining strength-based TFA-inspired disciplines with a requirement for teams to climb to the 21st floor while carrying heavy equipment and navigating simulated debris in darkness. In the Professional category, Zdeněk Vrána and Aleš Zeman of the Liberec Regional Fire Rescue Service secured first place.
