Czech football regional events and MOL Cup

Football activities in the Czech Republic have centered on regional events and the MOL Cup competition.

In early August, regional events included the ‘Den fotbalu’ in Kostelec nad Vltavou, which featured a match involving the Sigi Team, a squad of football and cultural personalities. Additionally, the club Spartak Police nad Metají prepared for a first-round MOL Cup matchup against second-division Viktoria Žižkov.

As the cup competition progressed, Hluboká secured a victory against Aritma Praha, winning in the final minute. Concurrently, Baník Sokolov prepared for a cup fixture against Arsenal Česká Lípa following a strong start to their season.

In the first round of the MOL Cup, FK Baník Sokolov achieved a notable upset by defeating the second-division side FK Arsenal Česká Lípa 3-1, securing the win with a late goal by Jakub Hora. Other significant results included the unexpected elimination of Slezský FC Opava, who lost on penalties to BFK Frýdlant following a 1-1 draw.

Several favorites successfully advanced, including FC Vysočina Jihlava with a 5-1 win over Havlíčkův Brod and Velká Bíteš with a 2-0 victory against Humpolec. Příbram also progressed with a 2-0 win over Strakonice, driven by two goals from teenager Desouza Apea despite playing with ten men for much of the match. Other advancing teams include Uherský Brod, Kroměříž, Havířov, and Bohumín.
