Czech helicopter fundraiser fraud allegations
Overview
The Czech initiative ‘Dárek pro Putina’ (Gift for Putin) has faced allegations of fraud regarding a fundraising campaign to provide a helicopter to Ukraine. An anonymous influencer, identified as Thomas Paukner, claimed that the approximately 72 million CZK collected for a UH-60A Black Hawk had not reached Ukraine and suggested funds might have been used to purchase equipment already owned by an arms dealer.
Organizers and the company Helicopter Alliance have denied these claims, stating the accusations stem from a factual error. They clarified that the original, more expensive helicopter was replaced with a different, less expensive American model, a change they maintain was communicated to donors.
In response to the allegations, Helicopter Alliance filed a criminal complaint, noting that the false narrative has caused suspicion among tens of thousands of donors. The initiative’s founders also announced plans to file criminal charges for defamation against the anonymous individual if they are identified.
